General Questions

How do I use self storage?

Self storage can be used for many purposes: as an extension of your home, a place to store seldom used items, to store seasonal items such as decorations and sports equipment, as a business storage solution to declutter your office or store inventory/equipment, or as a temporary home for you things while you move.

First make a list of what you want to store and determine what size storage you need. Don't forget to think about additional amenities such as climate control, drive-up access, and security. If you are unsure of sizing, how things work, or would just like a tour - feel free to call or email us.

What is true climate control and why do I need it?

True climate controlled storage units are humidity and temperature controlled. Climate control means that we use reasonable efforts to maintain a good temperature and low humidity in the building where the unit is located. The temperature is between 55 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, while humidity is around 50-55%. This type of environment is ideal for storing furniture, metal, fabric, and other items. Without climate control your furniture and metal objects can deteriorate due to mold, mildew, rust, and warping.

How do I know what size I need?

5x5' - This our smallest storage unit option. A 5x5 storage unit is ideal for personal items, clothes, boxes, skis, children's toys, and small furniture items such as an end table or chair.

5x10' - Use a 5x10 storage unit for storing smaller furniture, sofas, chairs, boxspring and mattress, dressers, a motorcycle, or business supplies/records.

10x10' - A 10x10 storage unit is a perfect fit for those in a one-bedroom apartment. Store major appliances, large furniture, multiple boxes, and other supplies in this storage unit.

10x15' - A 10x15 storage unit is great for those with a two-bedroom apartment or house. Store appliances, boxes, and other miscellaneous items in this storage unit. If you have a car you'd like to store, most cars can fit into this unit.

10x20' - If you have a three-bedroom home, this storage unit is ideal for you. Store major appliances, large furniture, and lots of boxes in this unit.

What is the difference between the indoor and outdoor units?

The indoor units are located within the building and are climate controlled. The building is secured with locked doors. The outdoor units have drive-up access and are not climate controlled.

Do I need insurance for my stored goods?

Yes, you are responsible for items you store at Back Rooms Storage. We offer affordable third party insurance/protection plan options at the facility. In the event that you are already covered, a copy of the declarations page must available at the time of signing.

Can I put food, batteries, fireworks, etc in the storage unit?

No. We do not allow food, drinks, or perishables of any kind in the unit. We also do not allow anything that could spontaneously combust/ignite/explode, such as fireworks, lithium batteries, or gasoline.

Types of Storage

What is a drive-up storage unit?

A drive-up storage unit is a ground floor, outdoor unit that has its own loading area. These units are ideal for storing large, heavy items or equipment as you have the ability to load your belongings directly from a vehicle or truck. They are also ideal for motorcycles and cars since they can be driven into.

Can I store a motorcycle or car?

Our outdoor units are able to be driven into. We have multiple sizes to accommodate different sized vehicles/motorcycles. However, we need to evaluate your request first. If it's accepted, we do require you to disconnect the battery in case of leaks and empty it of gasoline, so that way nothing could possibly ignite. Please call us to discuss your need.

Can my business rent a storage unit?

Yes! Depending on what you're storing, we have multiple unit sizes available.

Reservation and Renting Questions

How far in advance can I reserve a unit?

Please give us a call to discuss reservations.

Do I need to give you notice when I am ready to move out?

Yes, we require a 10 day notice in advance prior to your move out date. This allows us to inspect unit sooner, which in turn will allow you to receive your deposit back faster. Keep in mind, if you leave before the month is over you won't receive your money back. However, you won't be fined for leaving early and will still get your deposit back.

Do I have to sign a lease? Is there a monthly rental agreement?

Yes, when storing with Back Rooms Storage you will have to sign a month to month rental agreement. If you are storing a boat/RV you will have a 3, 6, or 9, or 12 month lease.

Do I need a photo ID when renting storage?

Yes, you'll need to provide identification such as a state-issued ID card, driver's license, passport, or military ID.

How often do prices change?

Our rates can increase due to market rates and supply/demand. Rates will only be reevaluated every 6 months. Standard increase is roughly 6%, however keep in mind that the rates might not increase at all.

Am I required to put down a deposit?

Yes, the deposit is half month's rent. It is fully refundable so long as the unit is in the same condition as it was when it was first rented out. If the unit is damaged, littered, or requires other types of cleaning/maintenance the deposit will not be refunded.

Payment Information

What are the payment terms?

Your rent is due on the first of the month. If you are moving in during the middle of the month, that month will be prorated. If you need the withdrawal from your account to be on a different day, please contact us to discuss the issue.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept most major credit cards, check, money orders, and cash. However, we recommend setting up autopay with a card because a late payment can cause a late fee to be issued. Credit cards do have a 3% charge fee.

How do I make a payment?

You can go online, mail a check, or drop off cash/checks at the office's drop box.
